Women in Comedy No. 12 - The Women of SNL

If March had more days in the month I would draw all women of Saturday Night Live.  But sadly, I must bring my Women in Comedy series to an end.  So I decided to focus on the ladies of SNL who have influenced me the most: Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler.

I don't care if I sound like I'm 12 but Maya, Tina & Amy are my heroes!  Maya can do anything!  Maya's is an amazing actress, I love her musical abilities and would one day - if she would have me -  hope to have a Beyonce face-off with her.  I'm sure her impersonation would blow mine out of the water but I would be ok with that.

Amy is special to me because she co-founded the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York.  It was here I studied improv and met the current members of my all-girl team, B.F.F.  We perform a monthly show at the theatre's original location on 22nd st.  It's funny because it's a tile shop during the day and a performance space by night.  I would like to think Amy would be happy to see that we still keep improv alive in the space.

And then there's Tina, ah, Tina!  I actually met Tina Fey once - and by meet, I mean completely bombarded her at a coffee shop where I poured my love out to her as if I was a contestant on American Idol.  Not my greatest moment but I knew I would be more upset with myself if I had said nothing.  I was so original too, "Tina, you are such an inspiration and I just want to thank you...."  And as I tripped on a chair back to my booth, I thought, "Really, Nicole?  That's the best you can say?"  For someone who does improv -and writes a blog, I'm not the best with words.  Well, I hope this illustration makes up for it.

It has been a pleasure honoring women comedians this past month.  I hope you enjoyed the illustrations as much as I enjoyed creating them!
